Tom Powell – Owner

Tom PowellOriginally moving to Cochrane in 1997, Tom quickly developed a deep affection for the town and the people of the area. With the establishment of Legacy Guitar House, Tom has combined his lifelong love of music with his passion for sales and marketing to bring the highest quality products and services to the vibrant music scene of the Cochrane Valley.

Taking up the guitar later in life, Tom approached the industry first through the eyes of a consumer and then as a seasoned sales professional who became disillusioned with what he experienced at the intimidating hands of “professionals”. Since that time he has devoted himself to fulfilling his dream of building a place and an environment where people of all stripes and abilities would feel welcome and where they can come to realize their own musical ambitions no matter what stage of life. To quote Tom, “if I can do it, anybody can.”

Shaun Koyata – Guitar Store Manager

shaunShaun has had a great appreciation for music, and all forms of art for as long as he can remember. From a young age, he developed a talent for drawing and painting, as well as writing, before taking up guitar to add to a long list of hobbies.

After studying fine arts in B.C., and classical animation in Calgary, Shaun found himself in the woodworking trade, building and installing custom circular stairs and railings in luxury homes in and around the Calgary area. During his ten years in the stair business, he continued to embark on occasional artistic endeavors, including logo design, illustration, and murals. Subsequently, guitar fell by the way side for most of this period, but is happy to be in a place that will allow the six string to come back into his life.
